Rebuilding Our Community
Rebuilding after the fire will take years, and the region does not have enough electricians, plumbers, framers, and inspectors to do the work. Geoff wants PCC training more of them, faster, alongside the contractors and agencies doing the rebuilding.
Cutting the Cost of College
PCC costs $46 a unit. The real cost now is textbooks, transportation, childcare, and rent. Geoff spent a decade pushing for free textbooks in California and wants those degree pathways at PCC.
A Real Path to a Four-Year Degree
Fifty-one percent of Cal State graduates started at a California community college. Geoff advocated for the transfer degrees that guarantee admission, and he wants dual enrollment at every high school in the district.
Students Over Politics
Geoff has served as board president twice at PCC and twice at the state level. A college board should hire well, watch the money, and keep the focus on whether students finish.
Job Training That Leads to a Job
Geoff wants PCC to expand training in the fields where local employers are actually hiring, and to build apprenticeship partnerships with the trades. A student who finishes a program should walk out with a credential an employer recognizes.
Watching the Bond Money
PCC voters approved a historic facilities bond. Every dollar of it should go to the buildings and equipment students use. Geoff wants a plain English summary of every bond spending item published before the board votes on it, not after.
Student Parents and Working Adults
More than four in ten California community college students are twenty-five or older, and most attend part time. Geoff wants class schedules, childcare, and support services built around students who are working and raising families.
Serving Every Student
Geoff has stood with immigrant and undocumented students throughout his career, including support for covering DACA renewal fees for California community college students. He believes PCC belongs to everyone who lives here.
Technology in the Classroom
Faculty need real support to use new tools well, and students need to graduate into the economy that exists. Geoff wants PCC training people for the jobs employers are hiring for now.
